YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — U.S. Navy base residents at Yokosuka, Atsugi and Sasebo in Japan will be able to watch World Cup soccer in high definition, Americable International officials at Yokosuka Naval Base said Friday.

As of Friday, Fox Soccer was being broadcast on channel 501 in high definition to all subscribers to the expanded digital package, Americable regional manager James Smith said.

Viewers with the expanded package should have either the 4250HD or the 8300-DVR set top box to watch the high definition channel, he said.

In addition, Americable will be broadcasting Univision coverage live on channel 502. Univision will also continue to be broadcast on channel 151 in its typically 10-hour time-delayed format, Smith said.

Along with the cable channels, viewers can watch the World Cup on the American Forces Network, which reached a last-minute deal to secure broadcasting rights for the world’s largest sporting event.

AFN will broadcast live and tape-delayed games on its AFN-Sports and AFN-Extra channels.
