The U.S. Coast Guard has ended its search for a 22-year-old man swept beyond the reef line while swimming at Tanguisson Beach on Guam.

The man has been missing since the evening of Feb. 10, according to a Saturday news release from U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam. The decision came after a three-day, multi-agency effort.

Crews from the Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and Guam National Guard carried out 26 coordinated search patterns, covering about 637 square nautical miles, according to the release. The effort included Coast Guard boats, a cutter and drones; Navy MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter sorties with rescue swimmers; and Guam National Guard UH-72 Lakota helicopter flights.

Guam Fire Rescue also assisted with extensive operations on the water, underwater and from the air, deploying rescue watercraft, jet skis, thermal-imaging drones and SCUBA teams, according to the release.

The Coast Guard said the search could resume if new, credible information becomes available. Anyone with information is urged to contact Joint Rescue Sub-Center Guam at 671-355-4824 or via VHF Channel 16.

A rip current statement remains in effect for the area, said the Coast Guard, which urged the public to stay out of the water while hazardous conditions persist.
