Responders have launched an intensive search in and around Pago Bay, Guam, for a fisherman reported overdue by his family early Monday.

Kevin Nauta, 34, was last seen wearing black shorts and a blue shirt, according to a news release from U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam.

His family alerted emergency dispatchers at 4:29 a.m., prompting Guam Fire Department units to begin searching along the coastline and in surrounding waters, the release said. The Coast Guard’s Joint Rescue Sub-Center was also notified and coordinated additional support from the U.S. Navy.

Guam Fire swept the shoreline from Nauta’s last known location, using an aerial drone to scan toward the channel mouth, according to the release. Offshore, a 45-foot response boat crew began searching deeper waters with an MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 at Naval Base Guam providing aerial support.

Weather Monday morning included east winds of 10 to 15 mph and waves of about 5 feet, with partly sunny skies, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard urges anyone with information that may aid the search to contact the Joint Rescue Sub-Center at 671-355-4826.
