CAMP HIALEAH, South Korea — Two racquetball players from Yongsan Garrison won titles in the 8th Army championship on March 7 at Camp Hialeah.

John Martin beat Larry Small of Camp Casey in the men’s senior division (ages 35-39) 15-4, 15-0. In the women’s division, Gwendolyn Morris beat Camp Stanley’s Gloria Hernandez 15-13, 14-15, 11-3.

Camp Casey’s Charles Stanley won the men’s open category (34-and-under) 12-15, 15-4, 11-6 over Suwon Air Base’s Mike Pepper.

In the men’s masters division (40 and older), Kim Song of 8th Personnel Command beat Yongsan Garrison’s Mike Gilliam 15-5, 5-15, 11-8.

Eleven soldiers selected for All-Army tryout camps

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Eleven 8th U.S. Army soldiers have been selected for three All-Army tryout camps in the United States, officials announced.

Portia Mouton of Camp Walker and Sigrid Manly of Camp Stanley will attend the All-Army women’s basketball camp March 19-April 10 at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. The Armed Forces championships are scheduled April 11-19 at Everett Naval Station, Wash.

Six 8th Army soldiers are headed to the All-Army taekwondo camp April 8-26 at Fort Indiantown Gap: Chad Beaven, Timothy Harrell, Kevin Williams and Matthew Darby of Camp Casey and Camp Hovey’s Tae-woo Lee and Johnny Birch. An Army invitational is slated May 7-13 at Fort Indiantown Gap.

Bruce Robinson and Ryan McGill of Camp Casey and David Allen of Camp Stanley will appear in the All-Army wrestling trials March 18-April 9 at Fort Carson, Colo. The Armed Forces wrestling championships take place April 10-14 at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.
