IKEGO HEIGHTS NAVAL HOUSING FACILITY, Japan — After losing their two previous contests, the five-time defending champion Yokosuka Seahawks broke out in style on Saturday.
Linell Tarvel had two 5-yard touchdown runs and two two-point conversions to power the Seahawks over the last-place Atsugi White Dolphins 30-6. Yokosuka’s record improved to 2-2.
“We had a solid week of practice, set up our blocking schemes for the offensive line, came ready to play and hit them in the mouth from the get-go,” said assistant coach Robert Cole.
Also contributing to the romp were receiver Curtis White, who caught his third touchdown pass in three games, a 60-yarder from Lavoris Harris, and outside linebacker LeQuincy Brown, who returned a fumble 36 yards for a score.
The Seahawks are two games behind the league-leading Yokota Warriors (4-0). But the win got the Seahawks back in the chase for the right to host a semifinal playoff game on Aug. 20. Yokosuka trails the Misawa Marauders (2-1) by half a game for second place.
Meanwhile, the White Dolphins (0-5) lost for the 12th straight time, dating back to last season. The Dolphins are assured of last place and the bottom seed in the playoffs.
Kelvin Lewis returned a punt 52 yards for Atsugi’s only touchdown and was 5-for-12 passing for 83 yards. Adrian Knight had 10 tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered one for Atsugi, which dressed just 17 players.
