Wiesbaden’s Jeremiah Simms and Marcus Williams rushed for a combined 333 yards and scored five touchdowns Saturday as the visiting Warriors handed Bitburg its first loss, 36-20.
Simms carried 24 times for 178 yards and ran for two TDs. Williams rushed 14 times for 155 yards. He ran for two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a TD for Wiesbaden (4-0 overall, 3-0 Division II-North).
Bitburg (3-1, 2-1) led 6-0 when quarterback Matt Less scored from 4 yards out in the first quarter. After Simms’ TD and Matt Wickham’s PAT kick put the Warriors up 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, Bitburg’s Darius Wynn rushed for the first of his two TDs and gave the Barons a 14-7 halftime lead.
Wynn kept pace with Simms and Williams after intermission in yardage gained. He compiled 183 yards on 22 carries, but his 13-yard scoring run in the third period capped Baron’s only scoring drive in the second half. Wiesbaden scored four touchdowns in the second half.
Richard Nelson’s 12 tackles led the Wiesbaden defense, which got a pass interception from Trey Johnson. The Warriors, who clinched at least a tie for the II-North crown, host International School of Brussels on Saturday.
Adam Smith, with 10 stops, and Alex Rodriguez, with nine, led the Bitburg defense, which also got an interception and seven tackles from Less and seven tackles each from Jasuan Young and Corey Armstrong.
In other D-II games Saturday:
ISB 21, Mannheim 14: At International School of Brussels, Brennan Edwards rushed 13 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns as the Raiders stayed in the D-II playoff hunt.
Gino Culotta ran for the other TD for ISB (2-2 overall, 1-1 II-North).
Jonathan Lankford broke a 72-yard kickoff return for a TD for Mannheim (2-2, 0-2), and All-European Joe Ward kicked field goals of 32 and 25 for the Bison. Trevin Hampton carried the ball 19 times for 115 yards for Mannheim.
Ansbach 42, Naples 12: At Naples, Italy, the two-time defending European D-II champion Cougars ran their winning streak to 20 games behind three touchdown runs by Jordon Shack.
Shack’s haul included a 45-yard burst that helped him total 107 yards on just eight carries.
Ansbach’s Anthony Adams ran seven times for 71 yards.
Quarterback Dominic Barrale also had a TD run for Ansbach, which clinched at least a tie for the II-South championship. The Cougars (4-0, 2-0 II-South), who got eight solo tackles and four assists from Kevin Stadler, have a lone conference game remaining, on Oct. 17 at winless Bamberg.
Ansbach hosts the Cologne Crocodiles of the German League this Saturday.
Cameron Cooper ran 27 times for 118 yards for Naples (1-3, 1-1), which got 78 passing yards on a 4-for-7 outing by quarterback Eman Rawls. Shea Goodnature, who carried 18 times for 76 yards, ran for both Naples touchdowns.
Defensively for Naples, David Loudon had two sacks among his 13 tackles and Sterling Sheppard chalked up a sack and was in on eight tackles.
Aviano 39, Bamberg 18: At Aviano, Italy, Denzell Barnett completed 14 of 24 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns as the Saints collected their first victory of the season.
Barnett completed scoring passes to Jamal Tuck and Bobby Henderson, and Alex Gary ran 12 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns for Aviano (1-3 overall, 1-1 II-South). Tuck also returned a fumble for a TD.
Bamberg (0-4, 0-2) which scored when Cortez Lindsey blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone, also got a 37-yard TD run from Monte Spreewell and a 30-yard fumble-return TD by Kevin Daniels.
