CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa – Deon Lewis rushed 18 times for 222 yards on Thursday, including four lengthy touchdown runs, as Kubasaki captured third place in the Far East Division I playoffs by beating Seoul American, 45-12.

It was the Dragons’ second win over the Falcons this season; Kubasaki won, 31-6, at Seoul American on Sept. 18. Kubasaki (6-3) also redeemed itself for a 26-8 semifinal loss to Yokota last week.

“We had a strong defensive effort in the first half,” said Kubasaki coach Fred Bales, whose team lead 12-0 at intermission. “We have a lot of respect for them. They brought it and made a game of it” until late in the third quarter when Lewis and the Dragons put the game away.

Jalah Patten ran 7 yards for a touchdown and threw a 59-yard TD pass to quarterback Cristian Rivera out of the Wildcat formation. Rivera was 5-for-13 passing for 155 yards. A.J. Watson added a 19-yard scoring run in the closing seconds.

Sidney Malau’ulu and Tyrend White each ran for second-half touchdowns for the Falcons (2-7).

The D-I championship game pitting Yokota vs. Kadena at Kubasaki’s Mike Petty Stadium is slated for 2 p.m. Friday.
