NSA ROTA, Spain — Far from the double-overtime excitement of Alconbury’s 26-20 victory over visiting Sigonella on Saturday, the Rota Admirals quietly evened their Division III record at 1-1 with a 12-0 victory over the Brussels Brigands on Friday night.

Sophomore running back Ramon Quijano rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown for Rota, which fell 21-18 to a two-touchdown rally in the late going the previous Saturday at Sigonella.

Friday, starting quarterback Gannon Soares scored on a keeper around left end on Rota’s opening drive, but was injured on the play and sat out the rest of the game, according to Rota coach Jeff Van Ausdall. Junior back-up Carlos Shay directed the team the rest of the way.

Next up for Rota is a home rematch of the Admirals’ season-opener at Sigonella.

Brussels (0-2) visits Menwith Hill on Saturday.
