RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – The two-time defending European Division I champion Ramstein Royals opened their 2011 Region II schedule Tuesday with a dominating 80-41 victory over the Bitburg Barons of Division II.

According to Ramstein coach Andrew O’Connor, the Royals got 16 first-quarter points from Joel Wetlesen en route to a 46-27 halftime lead. Wetlesen finished with a game-high 24 points in the contest, which saw the official scoring ended by the school system’s 39-point courtesy rule early in the fourth quarter.

DeVonte Allen, who scored all of his game-high 21 points in the first half of Saturday’s 64-35 conquest of Lakenheath, scored all 17 of his points on Tuesday in the first half, too. Thomas Amrine added 10 points for Ramstein (3-1 overall and 1-0 in Region II). The Royals, who tied Wiesbaden for the Region II lead with the victory, aren’t scheduled to take the floor again until they visit Wiesbaden on Jan. 18.

Matt Flood canned 12 points to top the score sheet for Bitburg (2-2, 0-1), which lost its second straight game. The Barons are scheduled to travel to Wiesbaden on Friday and Saturday.
