WIESBADEN, Germany — The Kaiserslautern Raiders are on the verge of a sweep in the 2017 DODEA-Europe golf championship meet.

Raider standouts Jasmin Acker and Kaden Senkbeil own leads halfway through the two-day, 36-hole event at Rheinblick Golf Course after posting strong scores in Thursday’s opening round. The classmates will look to complete their title runs and claim the first DODEA-Europe championships of the 2017-18 school year when the second and final round plays out Friday.

Acker has more room for error in her quest. The two-time defending European champion scored 36 points under the tournament’s modified Stableford scoring system Thursday, good for a comfortable eight-point cushion over closest pursuer Phoebe Shin of Ramstein. Stuttgart’s Sydney Smith lurks in contention with 27 points entering Friday.

Senkbeil faces a tougher path to the title as his 38 points are just one better than second-place Jonathan Ciero of Ramstein. Wiesbaden’s Bryan Cortese and Stuttgart’s Frank Whitworth checked in at four and nine strokes off the pace Thursday. All four of the contenders are chasing their first European crown after settling in behind graduated four-time champion Jordan Holifield of Stuttgart last year.
