Patch’s Lady Panthers made certain this weekend’s showdown against Heidelberg would be a matchup of regional unbeatens by completing a sweep of Black Forest Academy on BFA’s home court Saturday.
Led by All-European Janelle Loney’s 23 points, seven rebounds and five steals, Patch won 41-27 to improve to 11-1 overall and 10-0 in the region. The Lady Panthers are to host Heidelberg (9-1, 8-0) on Friday night and travel to Heidelberg on Saturday. Heidelberg was idle this week.
Johanna Quinn, who matched Loney with five steals, led Patch’s rebounding Saturday with eight. Rebecca Hess also helped pave the way for Patch with five assists and four steals.
As usual, Loney also set the pace in Friday’s 40-21 victory. She tallied 22 points, seven rebounds and four steals in that triumph, which was aided by nine assists and seven steals by Bianca Lopez. Lopez sat out Saturday’s game with an injury, coach John Kohut said by telephone Saturday.
BFA fell to 4-5, 3-5 with Saturday’s loss despite 13 rebounds by Esther Shady.

Aviano 56, Naples 32: Saturday at Aviano, the Lady Saints stayed unbeaten behind an All-Europe effort by their All-Europe pivot, Jasmine Mailoto.
Mailoto, a 6-2 junior, burned Naples for 25 points and 12 rebounds Saturday in a game that saw the home team blast off from a 12-10 first-quarter lead with a 22-4 second-quarter run.
Friday, Aviano prevailed 50-39 behind 12 points each from Mailoto and AnnMarie McClelland. The sweep means that Aviano (10-0 overall and in the region) can clinch the Region IV crown by winning just one of its two remaining games, scheduled for Vicenza on Friday and Saturday. Vicenza (8-2) must sweep to deny Aviano the title.
AFNORTH 29, Menwith Hill 22: Saturday at Menwith Hill, Sara Sawyer converted two free throws and sank a field goal in the final 30 seconds to cement the victory, which gave the visiting Lady Lions a split of their Region I weekend series in England.
Brenda Broadwater took game-scoring honors for AFNORTH (6-4 overall, 3-4 in the region) with 12; Mercedes Ash added seven points and Sawyer six, which included two of AFNORTH’s five successful free throws in the final period.
The loss to their Division II guests was just the second of the season for the Lady Mustangs, who clinched the Region I Small Schools title, awarded to the league’s Division III schools, the previous week at Alconbury. Defending D-III champ Brussels topped visiting Menwith Hill (10-2 overall, 3-2 in the region) 17-16 on Dec. 11.
Vilseck 44, Bamberg 25: Saturday at Bamberg, Deraj’McClinton broke loose for 20 points, and Jamila Harvey added 16 as the Lady Falcons completed a sweep and kept the defending European D-II champions winless this season.
Harvey added seven steals and McClinton six for Vilseck (4-6 overall, 4-4 in Region III). Thea Dunn led Vilseck with 10 rebounds.
Bamberg fell to 0-9, 0-7 despite 15 rebounds by Keaton Poppe and a team-high 11 points from Natesha Godbee.
Vilseck won Friday’s game, 49-17, at Vilseck.
