Woody Woodruff, the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Far East Division II baseball tournament for two-time champion Yokota, has committed to play for Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H., for the 2018 baseball season.
Woodruff, who transferred to Yokota from Ramstein, Germany, for his senior year in high school, has spent much of the last year training at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He will join a Ravens team that plays in the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 Conference. They went 30-13 overall this season, 20-7 in conference, with the D-II playoffs yet to come.
“With his size and power, we feel he will be a great addition to our program,” Ravens coach Mike Chambers said. “He is very physically gifted and still has tons of room to grow as a player. He shows a high level of maturity for his age. We’re very excited to have him on campus.”
Woodruff led the 2016 Panthers with a .603 batting average, .704 on-base percentage, 1.309 slugging percentage and 2.013 OPS, 10 home runs, 51 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. Yokota beat Matthew C. Perry 10-5 in the 2016 Far East tournament title game.
