MANGILAO, Guam – Guam High’s chase for its first Interscholastic Football League title came to an unceremonious end on Friday, as Father Duenas pounded the Panthers 51-13 at George Washington High School.

Xavier Jones caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Jujuan King and Solomon White ran 85 yards for a score, but it was not enough to overcome the Friars and young line replacements for injured Panthers starters, coach Jacob Dowdell said.

“Father Duenas was too much for us,” Dowdell said. “They were the better team tonight.”

A handful of line starters were out injured, and the Panthers ended up using four underclassmen in the interior, Dowdell said.

Still, the Panthers do play on into the last week of the season, guaranteed a berth in the Oct. 30 third-place game against the loser of Saturday’s George Washington vs. Southern semifinal. If Southern wins, the game would be at the Panthers’ home field.
