Robert D. Edgren added some new pages to the offensive playbook Friday and finally broke into the win column.
Quarterback Liam McDonald ran for two touchdowns and passed for two as the Eagles savored a happy homecoming. They led from the start and routed Matthew C. Perry 40-8.
“Some new plays were effective against Perry,” Eagles coach Mark Ganeb said. “We had great execution, we were able to pass and receive well. We got it done tonight.”
Jayden Marrero got the Eagles’ first touchdown eight minutes into the contest. McDonald then got the first of his two scoring runs, Eli Guinther ran 5 yards for another touchdown and McDonald added his second TD run in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, McDonald threw touchdown passes to Javahn Smith and Jake Halle, the latter followed by a Guinther two-point conversion run. Marrero capped the scoring for the Eagles with a fourth-quarter interception-return touchdown.
The lone bright light for the Samurai came courtesy of George Rodriguez, who took an outside run 40 yards for a touchdown.
Perry next travels to Division II-leading Zama next Friday; kickoff is at 6 p.m. The Eagles have the week off, then finish their season at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at Osan.
