AGANA HEIGHTS, Guam — George Washington successfully opened defense of its Guam Interscholastic Football League title and handed Guam High a season-opening loss on the way.

Jayden Martinez caught two touchdown passes and Ashtyn Gumataotao passed for three scores as the Geckos downed the Panthers 29-6 on Friday at Panthers Field.

“Offense and defensive lines” need work, first-year Guam High coach Billy Henry said. “We had plenty of opportunities to score, but we didn’t capitalize on them, and that’s where it starts, in the line.”

Quarterback Tyler Krueger threw a 58-yard scoring pass to Isaac Amaguin just before halftime to get the Panthers on the scoreboard.

Guam High next faces Father Duenas Memorial on Friday at 7 p.m.
