AGANA HEIGHTS, Guam – Noah Harris enjoyed what one of Guam High’s coaches called a “breakout game,” as the Panthers won their second straight game and remained in the hunt for one of four playoff berths.
Harris, a senior running back, had 217 yards on just seven carries and scored five times, while senior quarterback Braden Flinn added 135 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts as the Panthers routed Okkodo 72-0 Saturday.
“Harris was the man today. Today was his breakout game. He showed what he’s made of,” Panthers longtime assistant coach Greg Jacobs said. “It seemed every time he carried the ball, he scored.”
Senior Christian Polite added a 63-yard kick-return touchdown for the Panthers. Tyler Kruger, a junior, fell on a fumble in the end zone for another Guam High touchdown.
The win gives the Panthers a 2-3 record on the season (two losses to forfeits) and sets up a showdown with John F. Kennedy on Friday with the last berth in the four-team playoffs on the line. A Panthers’ victory paired with a George Washington (5-0) triumph over Southern (3-2) would give Guam the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. A Guam High win and a Southern victory would give the Panthers the No. 4 seed.
Guam High’s game last week against Simon Sanchez is currently being counted as a forfeit; it was not played due to the government shutdown, which sidelined the Panthers.
Due to scheduling conflicts, Simon Sanchez would have to agree to a reschedule, which might be difficult to do, league director Marvin Linder said in an email.
“The teams would be playing three games in a week and with the number of players playing both offense and defense, I don’t see this happening for safety reasons,” Linder said.
Saturday’s victory took place just hours after Father Duenas Memorial’s 85-game winning streak was snapped by George Washington, which beat the Friars 13-7 in overtime. The last time the Friars lost was Oct. 25, 2014, 12-0 to the Geckos in the league final.
