Last week:Captured the 158-pound gold medal and helped Kadena win its second team title in three years in Saturday’s Nile C. Kinnick Invitational “Beast of the Far East” Wrestling Tournament at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan.
Bloom, a senior and two-time Far East Tournament champion, made quick work of Takashi Kennedy of American School In Japan, pinning him in 19 seconds, before surviving John Iredale of Zama American, winning by a close decision. Bloom then pinned Yura Naito of Shonan Military Academy in 1 minute, 16 seconds. Kadena outgunned Shonan 70-54 in the team standings.
“He’s not resting on his laurels,” coach Steve Schrock said of Bloom. “He’s working extra hard in practice, as all of us are.”

Last week: Averaged 11.5 points per game and played a key role at several positions as the Warriors swept two Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference games, improving to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the league. Bergman scored 12 points in Daegu’s 56-10 romp Friday at Korea International.
Bergman followed that by nearly recording a triple-double, scoring 11 points, pulling down eight rebounds and recording nine steals as the Warriors won 51-37 at Yongsan International-Seoul. The 6-foot-1 junior is being tried at a variety of positions by coach Michelle Chandler, with good success, she says.
“She’s doing a great job, working very hard in practice,” said Chandler of Bergman, the reigning MVP of the Class A Volleyball Tournament. “Her success in volleyball is carrying over to basketball. She’s starting to get more confident.”
