Nile C. Kinnick, Japan

Last week: Played a pivotal role as the Red Devils (12-0, 6-0 Kanto Plain Association of Secondary Schools) continued their best start in school history with four victories in four matches played in a six-day span.

Niemeyer, a junior team captain, compiled 54 kills, 16 aces and 28 digs in the matches. Those numbers helped Kinnick beat Yokohama International in four sets on Sept. 23, St. Maur International in three sets on Sept. 24, Christian Academy In Japan for the first time in 11 years in straight sets on Friday and International School of the Sacred Heart in four sets on Saturday.

"It’s scary to think that she’s still just a junior," coach Al Garrido said. "Her dedication has been an inspiration to the team this year. And our success is a direct result of her hard work."

Kadena, Okinawa

Last week: Accumulated 152 all-purpose yards, scored a touchdown and set up another as the Panthers (2-0) moved within one victory of their third straight Okinawa Activities Council championship, blanking Kubasaki 29-0 Friday at the Dragons’ home Mike Petty Stadium.

Harris, a senior, intercepted two passes, ran one back for a touchdown and set up a score with the other. He ran 12 times for 40 yards and took four returns for 112 yards. The Panthers now only need to beat the Dragons (1-2 overall, 0-2 OAC) once in three more tries to clinch the best-of-five OAC season series and book a host berth in the Far East Class AA semifinal Nov. 1 against Guam High.

"It’s exciting to see him grow," Panthers coach Sergio Mendoza said. "He’s maturing not only as a player, but as a leader and a man."
