Yokota

Last week: Scored eight goals and assisted on two, powering the Panthers to a sweep of their three season-opening matches Friday and Saturday at Sasebo Naval Base, Japan.

Monahan, a senior, scored twice in Yokota’s 5-0 victory Friday over the Islanders, a Japanese school club team from the Sasebo City area. On Saturday, Monahan scored twice and assisted on two goals in the Panthers’ 8-2 victory over Canadian Academy, then scored four times in a 19-0 Japan Soccer League romp over E.J. King.

“Scott is such a hustler,” said coach Tim Pujol, who also coached Monahan the past two seasons in football. “He plays at such a high level. He was a key in making this trip a successful one.”

Zama American

Last week: Made her high-school debut a sparkling one, scoring five goals and assisting on one as the Trojans enjoyed a victory and a tie in their two weekend matches at Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station.

Zama routed host Matthew C. Perry 8-1, then forged a 1-1 tie against Robert D. Edgren, led by Ravelo, a freshman who’s played soccer since the first grade, earning MVP honors for her club team in Rhode Island as a sixth- and seventh-grader and a youth star at nearby Atsugi Naval Air Facility last year as an eighth-grader.

“Rachel is a welcomed addition to our team,” coach Victor Rivera said. “Not only does she have exceptional soccer skills, but she also possesses a great attitude and work ethic. I have high expectations for her and the entire team this season."
