HILLINGDON, England – Chris Jackson and Schuyler Backlar each posted double-doubles Saturday to lead the Menwith Hill Mustangs to a 66-40 romp over the American Community School of Hillingdon Hawks.

Jackson scored 20 points and handed out 10 assists, and Backlar added 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the Mustangs rebounded from a 36-20 loss the previous evening to the same Hawks’ team.

“It was a couple of good performances,” Menwith Hill coach Greg DeJardin said by telephone on Saturday after his Mustangs had upped their record against varsity completion to 2-2.

DeJardin added in a Sunday E-mail that Jackson’s defense and dishes were indispensable in the turnaround victory.

Sam Erhard added 15 points to the cause on Saturday.

“…it’s hard to substitute what Chris does as far as pressuring the opposing point guard all game,” DeJardin reported, “and without his quickness and creativity to deliver the ball to the open man…, we would have struggled today.”

Backlar posted a double-double in Friday’s loss – 12 points and 10 rebounds – but the team as a whole turned the ball over eight times and shot just 26 percent from the floor, DeJardin wrote in a Friday E-mail. Menwith Hill was 0-for-12 in three-ball tries on Friday.

The Mustangs (1-3 overall) are to take on another British school this weekend, Danum Technical College of Doncaster, England. Menwith Hill plays in Doncaster on Friday and entertains Danum on Saturday, then resume Region I play Jan. 20-21 at Alconbury.
