CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Tryouts are scheduled Monday through Thursday for the Okinawa Dolphins swim team’s spring and summer season, Marine Corps Community Services Semper Fit officials said.

Trials are open to swimmers 7 years and older, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Potential team members must be able to swim 25 meters or more in any two of four competitive strokes (freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke) with correct technique.

Past team members need not try out again. Swimmers who make the cut will begin practice May 10 at the Camp Foster 25-meter pool. Membership fee is $25 per season. For information, phone DSN 645-2787.

Kadena boys, Kubasaki girls win Okinawa track titles

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Serafina Smith captured four golds to power Kubasaki’s girls to the team crown in the Okinawa Activities Council district track and field finals on Friday.

Emmanuel Watkins won three gold medals to lead the Kadena boys to the team title over Kubasaki 84-43, with Zion Christian Academy placing third with 15 points.

Kubasaki’s girls edged Kadena 63-58, followed by Zion with 24.

Watkins won the boys long jump with a leap of 19 feet and three-quarter inches, ran the 200 meters in 23.05 seconds and the 400 in 50.59.

Smith ran the lead leg of Kubasaki’s 1,600-meter relay team and the anchor of the 400-meter relay, leaped 16-2¾ to win the long jump and ran the 400 in 1:01.37.

About 15 of Kubasaki’s track athletes will travel to Tokyo for Saturday’s Kanto Plain Association of Secondary Schools finals at Oi Pier Ground, near Haneda Airport.

Women’s softball team forming at Camp Kinser
