BAUMHOLDER, Germany - James Milledge and Prince Owusu each ran for a touchdown and two-point conversion in the game’s final 8 minutes and 9 seconds Saturday to lift the Baumholder Bucs to a 16-12 Division II-North victory over the visiting SHAPE Spartans.

The victory, aided by SHAPE’s failure to cover Baumholder’s kickoff after its first TD, lifted the Bucs, winless in 2009, to 2-0 overall and in II-North. SHAPE fell to 0-2 overall and in the league.

SHAPE led 12-0 going into the fourth quarter on the strength of two first-half touchdown passes by quarterback Nick Westrick. The first, caught by Trent Castro, covered 30 yards; the second, hauled in by Jacob Conkwright, spanned 19 yards.

Baumholder came to life in the final period, according to Baumholder assistant Erik Majorwitz. Milledge went in from 20 yards out, and three-sport star Owusu ran in the two-pointer that slashed Baumholder’s deficit to four points.

On the ensuing kickoff, the SHAPE return team failed to cover the live ball, and Ben Kubas recovered to set Baumholder up on the Spartans’ 12-yard line.

This time, Owusu took it in from the 2, and Milledge tacked on the two-pointer.

The Bucs’ defense then completed the second-half shutout, holding the Spartans (0-2) at bay for the game’s final 6:41.

Milledge led Baumhilder with 106 yards on 18 carries; his teammate Ryan Edwards rushed 12 times for 67 yards.
