Lady Lancers sweep softball opener
RAF LAKENHEATH, England — The Lakenheath Lancers resumed their softball season Saturday by sweeping the Heidelberg Lady Lions 17-1 and 12-9 in their opening conference games of the season.
Amanda Hood tossed a no-hitter in the opener and went 2-for-3 at the plate as the Lancers tagged Heidelberg’s Brittany Clark with the loss.
Despite being limited to just one hit for the game, Heidelberg jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings of the nightcap, but Lakenheath rallied late for the victory.
Shawnalee Bradley and Hood combined on the one-hitter, and Heidelberg’s Clark again took the loss.
Melissa Niehus had the Lady Lions’ lone hit. Hood went three-for-four and Nicole Ferrit and Ashley Cochran each had two hits for Lakenheath.

Würzburg, Mannheim split
WüRZBURG, Germany — Kordia Holmes struck out 10 batters in pitching the Würzburg Lady Wolves to an 8-6 non-conference victory over the Mannheim Lady Bison, but was tagged for 12 hits in losing the nightcap 10-5.
Holmes allowed seven hits in the opener and was backed by a triple from Jessica Haley and two RBIs each from Haley and Amanda Ventura.
Shnita Camps doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Mannheim. Tasha Standing Bear went the distance for the Lady Bison, fanning four, walking eight and giving up seven hits.
Mannheim’s Krystal Salazar picked up the victory in the second game with a four-hitter. She struck out five and walked six and was backed by three RBIs each from Tia Williams, who tripled, and Yolanda Rodriguez.
Holmes fanned eight and walked five in her losing effort. Megan Puls tripled for the Lady Wolves and Megan Hendrix stole three more bases.
Patch batters Hanau
HANAU, Germany — The Patch Panthers opened their Division II campaign in grand style, thumping the Hanau Panthers 37-1 and 33-3. Patch’s All-Europe pitcher, Lauren Sanchez, homered in winning the opener with a two-hitter.
Hanau is fielding its first team in school history this season.
