The Kaiserslautern Military Community All-Stars remained unbeaten Saturday, claiming the top seed in their pool with an 11-0 victory over Italy in Little League Baseball’s European Regional tournament.
KMC completed pool play 5-0 and will face Poland or the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, which start Sunday. The winner of the regional will represent Europe in the Little League World Series later this month in Williamsport, Pa.
According to KMC parent Wayne Daubert, KMC starter Kenny Martin no-hit the Italians, striking out five, in a game shortened to 3 ½ innings by the 10-run rule.
After taking a 2-0 lead in the second on Dan Tolarchyk’s two-run double, Daubert reported, KMC broke loose for a decisive nine-run third.
Four of the runs scored on Italian errors, but KMC’s bats also came to life. Martin stroked a run-scoring single, Cody Prince and Cannon Byrd each doubled home a run, and Jacob Van Parys launched a 230-foot bomb over the left field fence that ended the scoring.
Martin’s no-hit shutout allowed KMC to finish pool play having allowed just three runs to the five teams it faced, according to Daubert. KMC, meanwhile, scored 52 times in the 5-0 run.
The All-Stars defeated Turkey 13-0 in Friday’s game.
