The Kaiserslautern, Naples and SHAPE girls basketball teams extended their unbeaten runs into 2008 with easy victories as high school sports resumed.

Host Kaiserslautern shrugged off 20 points from freshman Elizabeth Styles to turn back Baumholder 50-46 on Friday, improving to 5-0 and keeping pace in Region II with idle Ramstein.

On Saturday, Naples and SHAPE completed sweeps at American Overseas School of Rome and AFNORTH, respectively.

Naples (4-0) throttled AOSR twice in Rome, 67-26 on Friday and 41-19 on Saturday, while SHAPE (6-0) collected two home-and-home victories: 33-14 on Friday at SHAPE and 59-31 on Saturday at Brunssum, Netherlands.

Kaiserslautern 50, Baumholder 46: At Kaiserslautern, Takara Greer led the Lady Raiders with 14 points. Latanya Wilson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to help Kaiserslautern overcome Styles and Veronne Clark, who scored 14 points.

Naples 41, AOSR 19: On Saturday at Rome, the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 20-4 halftime lead in an easy victory. Valentina Lee accounted for more than half of Naples’ total with 21 points, and Darien Moon added 12 to give her 30 for the weekend.

Taylor Anderson led Naples in Friday’s romp with 29 points.

SHAPE 59, AFNORTH 31: On Saturday at Brunssum, Justine Shelton, who scored 18 points in Friday night’s victory, scored 25 points in the rout. The Lady Spartans, leaders in Region I at 2-0, play a regional home-and-home this weekend against International School of Brussels.

Brussels 36, ISB 22: On Thursday at Brussels, the Division IV Lady Brigands won their fourth straight game by dominating their D-I guests in a Region I game.

Seniors Caitlin Quinn and Elizabeth McVicker scored 19 and 11 points and grabbed seven and five rebounds, respectively, and handed out four assists each in a game that saw Brussels, two-time European D-IV champions, go up 29-16 after three quarters.

Patch 48, Bitburg 32: On Saturday at Bitburg, the Lady Panthers (5-1) were led by Janel Briscoe, who scored 20 points after tallying 23 in Patch’s 51-26 victory at Bitburg on Friday night.

Patch benefited from six steals in each game, by Marijka Nakoneczny on Friday and Zoe Call in Saturday’s game.

Hanau 25, Hohenfels 23: On Saturday, Hanau’s eight-point second half was just enough to hold off visiting Hohenfels as each team collected its first victory in the two non-regional weekend games.

Hohenfels survived 28-26 Friday when Hanau missed a closing layup and two free throws. Hanau’s Lisa Fontanez led all scorers on Friday with 15 points.

Mannheim 24, Wiesbaden 21: On Friday at Mannheim, the Lady Bison rode a 9-1 fourth-quarter run to the victory.

Erica Wilson scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Mannheim (3-1), which held Wiesbaden’s high-scoring Leandra Thomas to six points. Thomas scored 28 in her previous outing, a 49-38 victory at home over Mannheim on Dec. 14.
