HOHENFELS, Germany – After being snowed out for the first month of the season, the Hohenfels Tigers celebrated their release from winter’s grip with a split against visiting Mannheim on Friday and Saturday.

Mannheim, behind 11 points from Gretchen Crockett, won Game 1, 33-11, on Friday, but Hohenfels rebounded on Saturday to prevail 28-20 behind eight points and four steals from Tashia Golson and a decisive 12-0 third-quarter run.

Hohenfels will take a 1-1 overall record into its Region III openers Friday and Saturday in Heidelberg. Mannheim (2-2) is to host Baumholder in a Region II opener on Friday and travel to Baumholder on Saturday.

Getting to play at last was a welcome relief, according to Hohenfels athletic director Kathy Clemmons.

“We didn’t even get to play that much against ourselves,” Clemmons said by telephone on Saturday. “School was closed a lot of the time and the late bus often was canceled.”
