ANSBACH, Germany – Intensity was the name of the game Saturday, according to Hohenfels boys coach Kathlene Clemmons, whose Tigers captured their fourth win of the season after capping a weekend sweep of the Ansbach Cougars, 65-37.

The Tigers, who defeated Ansbach 52-50 Friday, head into this week’s European finals in an attempt to capture their second straight Division II championship.

“I think we have the momentum we need going into the playoffs,” Clemmons said. “It has been a tough year in terms of wins and losses, but they do not necessarily define a team.”

Lack of intensity has been the Tigers issue this season, she said. They have found that intensity just at the right time.

“I have players who have not played like this before at all – it is a great time to have it,” Clemmons said.

The Tigers showed that intensity in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 16-4 and they never looked back from that point on. In the two games, Devon Fluker had a combined 31 points, Gilbert Pinckney added 23 and brought in 22 rebounds for the Tigers. Xavier Davis had 25 points total in the two games.

In girls’ action a scoreboard blackout with 2 minutes remaining was all that could stop the Ansbach girls from scoring Saturday as they beatthe visiting Lady Tigers 49-28 and captured their eight win of the season. Ansbach had a similar result Friday after a 48-21 victory.

Aylssa Solis sparked the Cougars with 11 first-half points as her team took a 24-18 lead at the half. Solis got in foul trouble early in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to slow down the Cougars’ offense.

Chealsy Reaves knocked in three straight shots from three-point range in the third.
