WIESBADEN, Germany - Sterling Jones and Chris Cuthbert each rushed for four touchdowns Saturday as unbeaten Heidelberg mauled Wiesbaden 54-19 on the Warriors’ home field to clinch at least a tie for the Division I-South crown.
“We couldn’t tackle him,” Wiesbaden coach Steve Jewell said of Cuthbert, who carried 23 times for 175 yards. “We’d hit him in the backfield, but he’d break away for big yardage.”
For all that, however, Cuthbert wasn’t even Heidelberg’s leading rusher. Jones took that honor with 273 yards on 21 carries against the Wiesbaden defense.
“Their line blocked really well,” Jewell said Saturday by telephone.
All-Europe running back Daniel Harris provided the few bright moments for Wiesbaden, which lost to Heidelberg for the second time this season. Harris amassed 126 yards and two TDs on 17 carries.
Tevin Teal scored the other TD for Wiesbaden (2-2), which plays at Patch this Saturday and at Vilseck on Oct. 23 in its battle for a I-South playoff berth.
Heidelberg (4-0) closes out the regular season by hosting Vilseck on Saturday and playing at Patch on Oct. 23.
