Mandy LaVanway struck out six batters over five innings Saturday to pitch Hohenfels to a 14-8 victory over host Patch in the debut of her school’s high school softball program.

LaVanway also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, while teammate Shaniece Ruiz also stoked three hits.

Mariel Beesting took the loss for Patch. Anne Wasson went 3-for-3 with a double for Patch.

Beesting picked up a 10-9 victory in the nightcap as Hohenfels left the tying run at second in the bottom of the final inning.

Angel Roman hit a solo home run for Patch, which got 2-for-3 outings from Rachel Allessi, Heather Vronegendewey and Lauren Tannenbaum.

In other softball doubleheaders on Saturday:

Lakenheath 17-17, Alconbury 1-2: At RAF Lakenheath, England, Ali Parkerson struck out 10 and allowed no hits over the three-inning distance in the opener. She and teammates Lisa McBride and Auburn Ritterbusch each stroked two hits in the victory.

Jessica Serd picked up the victory in the four-inning nightcap. She struck out seven.

Heidelberg 5-2, Kaiserslautern 4-9: At Heidelberg, Lisa Domingo struck out six over six innings as the Lady Raiders salvaged a split despite a 4-for-4 outing in the nightcap by Heidelberg’s Kaylin Hesler.

Heidelberg took the opener as Briann Joyner and Missy Guelle combined to limit Kaiserslautern to just four hits. The pair struck out eight Lady Raiders.
