Hanau High School, forced by dwindling enrollment to disband its boys soccer team last week, held the final home athletic event in school history Saturday, a 3-1 victory by its girls soccer team over Hohenfels.
Ashley Destafani scored two goals, and Natashia Hall added a goal and an assist.
“Lisa Fontanez played great defense,” coach Sam Cassou said of the senior’s role in protecting Hanau’s final home-field advantage.
The victory was Hanau’s first of the season. Hanau, ticketed for closure next month, won the European girls Division III title last May, but will play in D-IV in this year’s European tournament.
Aviano 7, Milan 0: On Saturday at Aviano, Tiffany Hight had five goals and an assist for the Saints (3-1-0). Krysta Maples scored a goal and assisted on three for Aviano. Milan fell to 0-4-0.
Kaiserslautern 9, Baumholder 0: On Saturday at Baumholder, striker Liana Knight scored five times as the unbeaten Lady Raiders of D-I blanked their hosts from D-III in a Region II game.
Mannheim 2, Heidelberg 1: On Saturday at Heidelberg, the D-II Lady Bison stayed unbeaten behind two goals from freshman Alanna Crockwell.
Anna Cressler and Brook Couch assisted on Crockwell’s strikes for Mannheim (5-0-0, 3-0-0 in Region III).
Ashley Ross scored for D-I Heidelberg (2-2-1, 2-1-0).
AFNORTH 2, Brussels 0: On Friday at Brunssum, Netherlands, the Lady Lions won their second game of the week behind goals from Jessica Wright and Cassandra Burgess.
Assisting on the strikes for AFNORTH (3-1-0 overall), which edged Baumholder 2-1 Wednesday, were Melanie Seitz and Jamie Strobel. Brussels, the two-time defending European D-IV champion, fell to 2-2-0.
Naples 2, Marymount 2: On Saturday at Naples, the race for the American Schools in Italy League crown remained neck-and-neck as the league’s unbeatens stayed that way.
Naples (4-0-1) closes its regular season this Saturday at American Overseas School of Rome. Marymount (3-0-1) will host Aviano Saturday and AOSR on May 17.
AOSR 3, Vicenza 1: On Saturday at Vicenza, Anna Battaglia converted two penalty kicks and scored on a corner kick to lift the American Overseas School of Rome. The victory allowed AOSR (3-1-0) to stay in the thick of the ASIL race.
Patch 7, Bamberg 0: On Saturday at Bamberg, Andi Marchant scored three goals, and Caitlin Gamble also scored as Patch improved to 3-0-0 in Region IV.
