Junior Amber Gadsden captured Most Valuable Player and All-Island honors in the just-completed Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam tennis season – the first player in Guam High history to be so honored.

Gadsden won all nine of her singles matches and helped lead the Panthers to a 9-0 regular season, also the first in school history. Gadsden in November captured the bronze medal in the DODEA Pacific Far East Tournament, beating Erika Youngdahl of Yokota 6-4, 6-3 in the third-place match on Nov. 12.

Guam High’s No. 2 singles seed, Sydney Short, was also named to the All-Island team, along with both of the Panthers’ doubles pairs, Chelsy Dohm and Rea Wilson, and Caitlyn Lawson and Brittany Trefurt.

Boys doubles pair Jared Cornell and Gerard Llanura were also named All-Island. Guam High’s boys team went 6-3, fourth in the league behind Harvest Christian Academy (7-2), St. John’s (8-1) and league champion Father Duenas Memorial (9-0).
