The U.S. Forces Japan-American Football League’s Torii Bowl title game will have to wait.
Commissioner Robert Cole announced Friday that, due to duty commitments related to this weekend’s Friendship Festival at Yokota Air Base and the Yokota Warriors football team, the Torii Bowl is tentatively rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29. Northern Division champion Yokota is slated to play unbeaten South champion Foster at 6 p.m. at Kadena Air Base’s McDonald Stadium.
Warriors team members were among the many at Yokota committed to supporting the two-day Friendship Festival, one of the few times during the year that the base is open to the public.
The teams tried to reschedule the game for Friday Aug. 28, but the island’s DODDS high school teams, Kadena and Kubasaki, were playing a preseason game that evening, tying up most of the Okinawa Athletic Officials Association’s referees.
The Torii Bowl originally had been scheduled for Saturday Aug. 22.
