Former Hanau soccer striker Kyri Bye-Nagel, now a sophomore at Division I Davidson University in North Carolina, was chosen as the Southern Conference athlete for the week of Sept. 18-25 after leading her team to two tournament victories.

Bye-Nagel scored two goals over the weekend as Davidson won the College of Charleston Tournament with victories over Vanderbilt (2-1 in overtime) and LSU (3-0), according to a release from Davidson’s sports information department.

Mannheim coach John Crockett, familiar with the skills Bye-Nagel showed during four All-Europe seasons, said Wednesday by telephone that he’s not surprised by her D-I success.

“She’s very tough mentally and physically,” Crockett recalled of one his team’s most respected opponents.

Bye-Nagel has a team-leading four goals and four assists through seven games.
