Nine times in her career as a soldier, Vivian Colbert has earned the right to represent the Black and Gold as a first baseman on the All-Army women’s softball team. Later this summer, she’ll try to make it 10.

Colbert, of the Yongsan post team, was among five Korea-based soldiers selected to attend the All-Army tryout camp, scheduled for July 31-Aug. 19 at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa., Army fitness and sports officials announced Thursday.

The camp will welcome 24 players. Colbert will be joined there by Yongsan teammate Roxanne Finks and by Lizabeth Doyle, Sarah Wilkerson and Nieasha Wingster of Camp Humphreys. They’ll vie for berths on the All-Army team to compete in the All-Armed Forces tournament, slated for Aug. 20-25 at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

Air Force won last year’s tournament at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., beating Army in the final.

Besides Colbert, who’s also a two-time All-Armed Forces selection, the Army tryout camp will welcome back reigning All-Armed Forces tournament MVP Tammy Baldwin of Fort Riley, Kan. She played for Air Force Plus One during the Pacificwide Open tournament over Memorial Day weekend at Yongsan Garrison.
