HEIDELBERG, Germany — Mannheim’s men and Heidelberg’s women grabbed the first titles of the 2007-2008 military basketball season at IMCOM-Europe’s Officials’ Clinic tournament on Saturday.

Mannheim’s men, who had fallen to Heidelberg 77-74 in pool play in the three-community field, outscored the Generals 20-11 in the last five minutes of the title game for a 68-61 victory, according to Heidelberg sports chief Thomas Benson.

Eloi Perry led Mannheim with 17 points in the finale. Heidelberg’s Troy Adams led all scorers with 25 points.

In the women’s title game, Heidelberg avenged a pool-play loss to Mannheim with a 42-39 championship-game victory.

Heidelberg’s Ojinaka Jacinta, who scored a game-high 20 points, sank six-of-six free-throw tries in the final five minutes and finished 12-for-14 from the line.

Maynesha James scored a team-high 11 points for Mannheim, which downed Heidelberg 46-31 in pool play.

Next up on the military tournament calendar are an eight-team women’s event in Schweinfurt Oct. 27-28 and a men’s and women’s Thanksgiving Day event in Wiesbaden.

Miller keeps Hanau unbeatenWüRZBURG, Germany — Spencer Miller passed for two touchdowns and ran for two others Friday night as the Division IV Hanau Panthers downed D-III’s Würzburg Wolves 56-22 to remain unbeaten in the school’s final season of football.

Miller, who carried six times for 115 yards, was 6-for-13 passing for 134 yards.

Jasmine Hawkins caught four of the six completions for 77 yards and a TD.

Gerald Williams rushed 17 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns for Hanau (5-0), which plays at Menwith Hill on Saturday to determine the league’s regular-season champion.

Both teams are already assured of berths in the European D-IV title game Oct. 27 in Baumholder.

James Robinson carried the ball 25 times for 240 yards and two TDs for Würzburg (0-5). The Wolves host Hohenfels on Saturday in their final game of the season.
