Marcus WilliamsFootball

Wiesbaden

Last week: Williams, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior tailback, turned on the jets Saturday when his unbeaten Warriors needed a lift on the road against Division II-North rival and previously unbeaten Bitburg.

"Williams broke open a 21-20 game with a big third-quarter push," Wiesbaden coach Steve Jewell recalled Tuesday about the 36-20 Wiesbaden victory, "when he ran an 84-yard kickoff return back for a TD and then the two-point conversion. The next Barons’ possession saw a Wiesbaden interception. Williams took the next play from scrimmage and ran 44 yards for another Wiesbaden TD, putting the Warriors up by 16 points in a two-minute span."

The TD run was the second rushing touchdown of the game for Williams, who carried 18 times for 158 yards. Williams’ rushing total was second to teammate Jeremiah Simms’. Simms rushed 25 times for 178 yards and two TDs as the Warriors ground game overwhelmed their hosts.

"Marcus is the epitome of what is good about student athletics — works hard, great attitude, and a top-notch student," Jewell said.

Lakenheath

Last week: Morgan, a senior libero, showed how her position is supposed to be played Saturday while helping Lakenheath to two 3-0 victories.

According to her coach, David Hagander, Morgan, a transfer student, had 18 digs in the Lancers’ 25-10, 25-16, 25-19 conquest of American Community School-Cobham, and 25 in a 25-22, 25-17, 25-20 sweep of SHAPE. Morgan has 114 digs this season.

"It must be very difficult for any student to transfer to a new school for their senior year, but Talia seems to have handled the transition effortlessly…," Hagander wrote Tuesday in an e-mail. "Even with a lot of skilled, veteran players on the team, Talia has quietly gone about becoming a positive leader.... With each game, her teammates are learning to trust Talia more and more as she proves how very capable she is in playing the back row."

Morgan’s talent and attitude have paved the way for her emergence, Hagander concluded. "What makes Talia such an effective volleyball player is her great combination of physical skills, volleyball experience, intelligence, maturity and positive personality," he wrote.
