Warriors stay on a roll by dispatching Falcons
The Wiesbaden Warriors weathered a pair of upset bids from the visiting Vilseck Falcons this weekend, earning a DODEA-Europe Division I boys basketball sweep by scores of 64-47 and 59-50.
The Warriors outscored the Falcons 36-22 after halftime on Friday to pull away for the opening win. Wiesbaden forced Vilseck into 23 turnovers in the game while committing just eight of its own. Markez Middlebrooks poured in a game-high 32 points for the Warriors, while Tyrese Harris posted an all-around stat line of six rebounds, 10 assists and five steals.
Dominique Bivins shouldered the scoring load on Saturday, leading all scorers with 25 and reaching double-double status with 10 rebounds. Roberto Eiseman chipped in with a 12-point, eight-rebound effort.
Jonas Matthews totaled 21 points over the two games to lead Vilseck.
Wiesbaden has won eight straight games overall, including six Division I contests, entering a Tuesday evening showdown with divisional rival Kaiserslautern.
Aviano 46/34, American Overseas School of Rome 26/27: At Aviano, the host Saints locked down the visiting Falcons in a Division II doubleheader.
Aviano held AOSR to single-digit scoring in seven of eight quarters over the two games and pulled away with explosive second-half offensive performances in both.
DJ Vaughns scored a game-high 16 points on Friday, while Gabriel Hodgson posted 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the two wins.
Black Forest 56/57, Hohenfels 47/52: At Kandern, Germany, the host Division II powerhouse withstood a worthy challenge from the Division III Tigers.
Hohenfels shook off an early double-digit deficit to pull ahead by a basket at halftime. A third-quarter surge secured the win for the Falcons. Gabriel Kruse scored a game-high 25 points to pace the victors.
The visiting Tigers forced the issue again Saturday before taking a five-point loss. Jacob Fortune led BFA with 21 points, while Kruse contributed another 16.
Deshawn Herold-Adams totaled 36 points over the two games for Hohenfels, while Julian Walker scored a combined 27.
Naples notches two wins: The host Wildcats handed losses to both of their visitors over the weekend, defeating Vicenza 63-42 on Friday and handling Rota 63-45 on Saturday.
Tye Thompson poured in a game-high 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Wildcats earned a win over their familiar Italian rival on Friday. Ashton Jeanty posted a double-double of his own with 16 points and 20 rebounds.
Jeanty and Thompson were prolific again Saturday with respective scoring totals of 30 and 23 points.
Rota salvaged a victory on the trip with a 68-53 defeat of Vicenza. Antonio White scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Admirals.
Sigonella 63/49, Marymount 16/20: At Sigonella, the Jaguars dispatched the visiting Royals.
Sean Solano outscored the opponent by himself on Friday with a 17-point effort, to which he added seven steals and six rebounds.
Johnathan English scored 14 to lead three double-digit scorers for Sigonella on Saturday.
