WIESBADEN, Germany – The Spangdahlem Sentinels and Sigonella Jaguars won their semifinals Friday, setting up a Saturday showdown for the DODEA-Europe Division III girls basketball championship.

Spangdahlem 46, Brussels 21: The Sentinels took it upon themselves to get an early lead during the first game Friday.

The Sentinels offered a great display of their passing skills, with Lorelai Vargo cashing in much of the time. She finished with 20 points – about half of those coming from long distance.

“I think the game went really well since our passing was done so well,” Vargo said. “We kept our heads up and looked for the outlets. That was something that we focused on for this tournament; better passing and better focus.”

Brussels entered the fourth quarter with only 11 points. The Brigands were able to put up 10 more in the final quarter, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Sigonella 36, Alconbury 31: Right from the beginning of the matchup, both teams played aggressively, but the scoreboard didn’t reflect it.

At the end of the first quarter, the score was 6-4 in Alconbury’s favor and both teams seemed evenly matched. Throughout the second quarter, the teams matched shots and Sigonella grabbed a 15-14 advantage at halftime.

That continued in the third quarter until Sigonella grabbed the lead for good in the final period.

Sigonella’s Jessica Jacobs scored 17 points to help secure her team’s victory.
