NAVAL AIR STATION SIGONELLA, Sicily - Jon Gasporra threw two touchdown passes Saturday to spark the Sigonella Jaguars to a 38-13 non-conference victory over the visiting Woodham Warriors of the English football league.Gasporra coinedcted with Gunnar Smith and Chris Miller for his TD tossess, and Collin Gantt, who passed to Antonio Garcia for Sigonella’s first TD of the day, and D’Ontrell Harrington added rushing touchdowns. The victory allowed the Jaguars to complete their regular season 3-3 overall. The Jaguars finished their conference season 2-3 and are the apparent No. 4 seed for this week’s European Division III semifinals. The D-III No. 4 travels to unbeaten No. 1 Baumholder for the semifinals. “I tested a variety of new wrinkles in the offense and wanted to get some scores for members of my offense who had not scored all season,” Sigonella coach Matt McKown wrote in an email report of the game which he called a tune-up for the playoffs. “We feel relatively confident in the performance of the boys heading into the playoffs – we have no injuries and are in the right mindset for playing Baumholder. There were a few things we noticed we need to fix, but that’s what’s nice about playing games at the end of the season. You can try some things out you wouldn’t normally during the season.” Sigonella totaled 200 yards rushing and 78 passing, reported McKown, who credited his offensive line of Chris Miller, Tristan Morris, Matt Cagle, Antonio Garcia, Gunnar Smith and Ford Sugai for the ground production. Woodham, which also fell to D-III schools Menwith Hill and Alconbury this season, managed 105 rushing yards and a TD from Chris Armstrong. The Warrriors’ other score came from a run by quarterback Rickey Mannion.Otherwise, Woodham had no answer for the Sigonella defense led by Peter Swisshelm, who came up with four turnovers – two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Eli Lagger made 5.5 tackles and a sack for Sigonella.
