NAPLES, Italy – Saturday’s rain was the only thing that could cool down the Sigonella Jaguars baseball team last weekend. Friday, the Division III Jags moved to 5-1 for the season by prevailing over two D-II schools – 9-8 over Aviano and 11-4 over Vicenza. Saturday’s games against the Northern Italy schools were rained out.Against Aviano, Sigonella struck for seven first-inning runs. First baseman Clay Coon, according to Sigonella coach David Berryhill, had the big blow in the frame, a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double. Aviano answered, however, and was just a run behind in the bottom of the final inning when Sigonella turned a bases-loaded grounder into a game-ending double play from shortstop Brandon Albert - who stroked two doubles in the game - to second baseman Chase Berryhill to Coon.Against Vicenza, freshman pitching ace Luke Ostergaard struck out seven in his four innings of work, coach Berryhill reported.Ostergaard stroked a three-run homer as part of his seven-RBI day. Marco Summerfield also homered for Sigonella, which will host unbeaten Naples on Saturday.Vicenza (1-5) is scheduled to play at Aviano (0-6) on Saturday.
