RAF MENWITH HILL, England - Colin Gantt and D’Ontrell Harrington each ran for two touchdowns Saturday to power the Sigonella Jaguars to a 48-28 road victory over the Menwith Hill Mustangs. The Jaguars went a long distance spatially and chronologically to claim their first victory of the season. In addition to making the long trip from Sicily to North Yorkshire, the Jaguars, who also got TD runs from 250-pound center Matthew Cagle, fullback Antonio Garcia and wingback Jose Serna, snapped a two-year losing streak.Saturday’s victory was the Jags’ first since they defeated Alconbury 19-12 in the 2010 Division III championship game. That one capped an unbeaten season, but since then the Jags had lost eight straight, the final three of those at the end of last season when player shortages forced Sigonella to suspend its football season.Josh Wilcox ran for touchdowns covering 5, 50 and 10 yards for the injury-depleted Mustangs, who suited up just 13 players for Saturday’s game, according to coach Pete Resnick. Quarterback Damon Morris, starting in place of injured all-conference senior Schuyler Backlar, tossed a 5-yard TD pass to Jordan Crouse for the final Menwith TD.Sigonella (1-3) will attempt to make it two straight when the Jags host winless Brussels on Saturday. Menwith Hill (2-2 overall, 1-2 in D-III) travels to Alconbury on Saturday. They won’t need that big a bus, Resnick indicated.“We’ll probably just have 11 for that game,” he quipped.
