MONS, Belgium – The SHAPE Spartans put their scheduled bye week to good use Saturday by downing the Brussels Bulls, a Belgian club team, 33-16. According to SHAPE assistant Michael Vargas, the non-conference victory was the Spartans’ first in two years.Quarterback Nick Westerick did the heavy lifting in the scoring department for SHAPE, 1-3 overall and 0-3 in Division II-North. Vargas credited Westerick for 140 yards rushing and two TDs and with throwing second-quarter TD passes to Amari Wilson and Austen Eperjesi. Each scoring toss covered 35 yards.James Workman bore the ground burden for SHAPE, Vargas reported. Workman rushed for 190 yards.Isaiah Sterling ran for 12yards for a fifth TD for SHAPE, which lost Conner Manning in the second half to a broken arm. Manning had rushed for 68 yards in the game’s first 24 minutes.Nose tackle Taylor Ator sacked the Bulls’ quarterback twice.SHAPE is to host AFNORTH on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the European D-II playoffs and the loser ending its season.
