Returning Division I finalists Kaiserslautern and Ramstein restarted their respective DODEA-Europe boys basketball seasons this weekend with convincing doubleheader sweeps.
Kaiserslautern 68/55, Black Forest 52/38: At Kandern, Germany, the Raiders picked up two sizeable wins over the Division II Falcons.
Ervin Johnson poured in 27 points in Friday’s victory, while Issak Pachero led a balanced Raider effort with 13 points on Saturday. Tre Dotson totaled 30 points over the two games.
Jacob Fortune scored a combined 29 points and Gabriel Kruse collected 26 points for the Falcons.
Ramstein 73/55, Vicenza 42/49: The four-time defending champion Royals stayed undefeated on the season with a sweep of the host Cougars.
The wins improve Ramstein to 4-0 on the year, including one-off wins over Wiesbaden and Kaiserslautern prior to the holiday break. The Royals face Division III Baumholder and Division I Lakenheath next weekend.
The losses were the first of the season for Vicenza, which will make a long road trip to Bahrain for a doubleheader next weekend.
Hohenfels sweeps Alconbury at D-III meet: The Hohenfels Tigers won both of their games, and both against the Alconbury Dragons, in a three-school Division III meet at Spangdahlem.
The Tigers survived a huge 29-point fourth quarter from their opponent to earn a 59-57 defeat of the Dragons on Friday. Deshaun Herold-Adams scored a game-high 20 points to lead the way, while Julian Walker added a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. Walker exploded for 28 in Saturday’s more comfortable 60-48 victory.
Spangdahlem too picked up a win over Alconbury, a 63-45 Friday decision. A scheduled Saturday matchup between the Tigers and Spangdahlem was canceled due to inclement weather on Hohenfels’ travel route.
