RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – Oh-for 2010-11 going into Wednesday night’s game, the Ramstein Lady Royals emerged tied for the Region II lead after a 51-25 victory over the visiting Bitburg Lady Barons Twenty-eight steals and a suffocating defense which turned Bitburg’s entry-pass tries to 6-feet-1-inch power forward Melissa Menschel journeys into the unknown made the difference for the Lady Royals (1-3 overall and 1-0 in Region II), according to coach Nate Brewster. Sarah Szybist made a team-high eight thefts; MacKenzie Crews struck for four, and each girl pulled down a team-high six rebounds.Crews took game-scoring honors with 16; Szybist accounted for 10 points.Menschel scored a team-high 11 points for Bitburg, which took an 0-3, 0-1 mark into its Friday-Saturday Region II games at Wiesbaden. Next up for the Ramstein girls is a Region II game Tuesday at Mannheim.
