MONS, Belgium – Clicking like the two-time defending Division I champions they are, the visiting Ramstein Royals sped to a 60-27 non-regional victory Saturday over the SHAPE Spartans.Sam Wetlesen and All-Europe guard Thomas Amrine struck for a game-high 11 points each, and Wetlesen and SHAPE’s Nick Westrick tied for game-rebounding honors with a dozen each in a game which saw the Royals jump out for good with a 20-4 first-quarter run.DeVonte Allen added 10 points for Ramstein (8-2 overall), which has won five straight games since absorbing a 67-62 Region II loss at Wiesbaden on Jan. 18.Next up for Ramstein are two Region II games against the Baumholder Bucs. The Royals are scheduled to visit Baumholder on Wednesday and host the Bucs on Friday. Those will be the team’s final tune-up before games at Kaiserslautern on Feb. 15 and at home against K-town on Feb. 19, most likely with the Region II title on the line. The Royals then will turn their attention to the chase for a third straight European Division I title Feb. 23-26 at Mannheim.Tinos Panidis was the lone double-figure scorer Saturday for SHAPE (1-11 overall). He tallied 10 points.Next up for the Spartans are Region I games, SHAPE’s last of the regular season, against D-III school Brussels. SHAPE is to host the Brigands on Friday and travel to the Brussels home court in Steerebeek, Belgium, on Saturday. After that, SHAPE is to join Ramstein in the European D-I tourney Feb. 23-26 in Mannheim.
