ANSBACH, Germany – The explosive Ansbach Cougars offense scored over 40 points for the third time in as many games this season Saturday in a 41-6 trouncing of Aviano. Ansbach scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to strengthen a fragile 14-6 lead at the break. The Cougars’ ground attack was again unstoppable. Dorian Jones scored two touchdowns and Damian Alston and Bailey Ward scored once each as the Ansbach backfield ran for a combined 306 yards and four scores. Ward opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 55-yard pass to Brandon Piccinini. Jones added a 29-yard field goal in the final minutes. Mike Trujillo found Jamal Thomas for Aviano’s lone touchdown. More often, Ansbach’s defense got to Trujillo first, as Josh Pleake notched three sacks and Nick Abel added two. Austin Benton led the Cougars with 13 tackles, while Roger Brownell added nine. Trujillo made his own impact on defense with a team-high 10 tackles. Ansbach keeps pace with Vicenza atop the Division II south standings. The two packs of Cougars are on a collision course for Oct. 11; first Ansbach hosts Naples on Oct. 5.
