Home or away was all the same this weekend as the Patch boys and girls each collected two victories.Friday at Stuttgart, the Panthers turned back the Cougars, 43-40, and the Lady Panthers outgunned the Lady Cougars, 39-25. Saturday at Ansbach was more of the same – the boys prevailed, 51-41, and the, girls 50-24.“This physical basketball game was never in doubt,” Ansbach coach Dan Smith conceded in a late E-mail reporting Saturday’s boys’ game. “Patch jumped out to an early lead (a 10-2 opening run) and answered everything we did for the rest of the day, making sure no late-game heroics would be necessary.”The reference to late heroics referred to Friday’s much-tighter three-point victory.“A nice attempt at late comeback by Ansbach,” Smith wrote, “was held off by Patch with a couple of clutch plays.”Shaquille Hunter led Patch’s scoring in both games. He tallied 12 on Friday, tying Ansbach’s Xavier Jones for game-scoring honors, and 16 on Saturday. Patch’s boys are 6-4 overall, 6-2 in Region III. Ansbach fell to 1-6, 0-5.As usual, Patch’s All-Europe guard Janelle Loney significantly impacted the twin-killing which upped the Lady Panthers’ region mark to 8-0 and overall record to 9-1. Both figures match those of Region III co-leader Heidelberg.Loney chalked up 11 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists on Friday and 28 points, seven steals, six rebounds and four assists on Saturday.But Loney shared the weekend spotlight with teammate Michelle Moorhead, who scored a game-high 14 points on Friday and hit double-figures again with 13 on Saturday. Cumulatively, she collected 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals for the weekend.Ansbach fell to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in Region III. Next up for both Ansbach squads are games against visiting Hohenfels on Friday and at Hohenfels on Saturday.Patch is scheduled to visit Black Forest Academy on Friday and Saturday.
