ANSBACH, Germany – The playoff-bound Ansbach Cougars shook off an early deficit and never looked back Saturday, cruising to a 46-7 victory over Naples. Ansbach ceded Naples a 7-0 lead through one quarter but seized full control of the crucial Division II game immediately thereafter. Bailey Ward scored from 6 yards out and Shawn McDonald rammed in a two-point run to take the lead in the opening seconds of the second quarter, and Dorian Jones scored on two runs before halftime to build the lead to 15 points by the break. Jones piled on three more scores in the third quarter, and teammate Nick Abel blocked a punt that resulted in a Naples safety. Jones finished with 253 yards and five touchdowns on 21 carries. Ward had five carries for 46 yards and a score, while McDonald added 51 yards on six carries and converted five two-point conversion attempts on the ground. Austin Benton led the Cougar defense with 10 tackles and two sacks. Juwan English collected 126 yards for the Naples offense, including an 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Ansbach will take a 4-0 record into its regular-season finale Oct. 11 at Vicenza. Naples, last year’s Division II runner-up, falls to 2-2 but is still in line for a playoff spot entering its last regular-season game Saturday at Aviano.
