NAS SIGONELLA, Italy – The defending European Division II champion Naples Lady Wildcats ran their 2011 record to 8-0 Saturday with 20-4 and 22-1 South Region softball victories over the Sigonella Lady Jaguars.According to Sigonella coach Amy Driscoll, All-European Caitlin Eckert picked up the win in Game 1. Eckert, who struck out six, received 4-for-5 batting support from Gee Trigg.Courtney Albert was tagged with the loss, Driscoll reported in a Saturday email, despite a home run off the bat of teammate Lizz Adams.Game 2 was more of the same, Driscoll continued.Cindy Olivo, backed by 4-for-4 hitting by Tara Carrico, picked up the win; Sigonella’s Adams took the loss.Driscoll had special praise for Naples second-sacker Lindsey Arce, whom she reported performed well in place of a starter who stayed in Naples for college testing.Naples catcher Ayanna Florence also impressed Driscoll.Florence “…played two really tough games behind the plate, stopping some wild pitches and preventing Sigonella from scoring,” Driscoll concluded.
