BITBURG, Germany – Sam Rosario scored 20 points and Calvin Baisden hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to put the Mannheim Bison ahead to stay in a 57-53 victory Thursday night over host Bitburg.Erick Matos scored a season-high 19 points for Bitburg by making seven of his nine field goal attempts. Daren Aiken added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Barons, who fell to 2-8 in Region II and 4-9 overall.Rosario and Baisden helped Mannheim (4-5, 4-10) rally from a 45-42 deficit entering the final quarter.In the girls game, the Lady Bison withstood a furious Bitburg rally in the final quarter to prevail, 28-25. Bitburg, led by nine points from Brianna Lackey and eight from Melissa Menschel, scored more points in the fourth (14) than in the other three quarters combined. But it wasn’t enough to stop the team from falling to 2-8 in Region II and 2-8 overall.Kadedra Lea had 10 points to pace Mannheim, which improved to 3-6 and 6-8.Both Mannheim teams host Wiesbaden on Friday for their final regular-season game — the school is scheduled to close at the end of this school year — while Bitburg hosts AFNORTH on Saturday. Both schools will compete in the Division II tournament at the DODDS Europe basketball championships next week.
